Responsibilities

The Field Service Engineer troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs HS products. They perform customer trainings and have a solid knowledge of the organization's products and services. This position requires you to reside in, or relocate to, the San Francisco, CA (Bay Area) region. 

  • Provide on-site field service, repair, and corrections.
  • Perform remote troubleshooting and diagnostics.
    • Electrical to the circuit board level.
    • Mechanical to the component level.
  • Follow company's ISO and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Liaison to coordinate any third-party personnel for refrigeration repair related issues.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on Hamilton Storage equipment.
  • Perform telephone, email, and remote support for both internal and external customers.
  • Accurate and clearly complete documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work with the team to ensure documentation is fit for purpose and up to date.
  • Communicate with the customer to ensure complete satisfaction and implement any necessary corrective actions.
  • Provides status updates and key performance indicators on a regular basis.
  • Utilizes CRM to input and capture all service activity and create service reports.
  • Provide feedback to Hamilton HQ on recommendations for system reliability improvements.
  • IP addressing, Remote Desktop Protocols, and Driver Support.
  • Execute field upgrades for improved reliability as directed.
  • Regular commute to and from customer sites with ability to navigate within the region. Must follow traffic laws and correctly route themselves, ensuring on-time arrival at customer site.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to read electrical and pneumatic schematics.
  • Able and willing to learn proprietary Hamilton Software.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, which are appropriate for a customer-facing role.
  • Capable of hands-on troubleshooting at the system level.
  • Be capable of working under pressure without compromise.
  • Be able to make decisions and act for customers based on knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability of working independently and in a team.
  • Demonstrated ability utilizing Microsoft Windows environment, Active directory, and SQL databases.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing a variety of electronic and/or mechanical test equipment.
  • Must be hardworking and enthusiastic with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Must have a high level of self-motivation to assist customers, sales, and service team to overcome problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain a valid passport.
  • Must be able to climb 6’ ladders multiple times per day.
  • Comfortable working in Cold Environments, -20c environment -80c components (down to -150C).
  • Comfortable in confined spaces and still able to be aware of the environment.
  • Comfortable working around live and wired systems.
  • The FSE must possess and maintain a current, valid Driver License. Must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check.
  • This position requires 70% travel from California to Missouri and Texas to Canada. Occasional travel outside this territory may be required.
  • The candidate must spend the first 4 weeks in Franklin Massachusetts for training and return to Franklin periodically for one week-long refresher courses.
  • Willingness to work additional hours and the flexibility to work overtime as and when required.

Education/Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline from a regionally accredited, not-for-profit university preferred.

Or

  • The equivalent combination of an Associates, Vocational, Technical/Trade, or equivalent degree/certificate and at least two years of technical experience working in an electronic/electrical engineering environment with a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electronics, electrical, mechanical, and computer systems.

Experience:

  • Experience in technical field service and working with customers in the life science, clinical, or pharmaceutical field is preferred.
  • Must have at least 4 years of experience servicing sophisticated Lab Automation Systems/capital equipment.
  • Must have a basic Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical skill set.
  • Being fluent in English, both written and spoken, is required.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move approximately 60 lbs.
  • At least 1 year of soldering experience.
