Responsibilities

The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for assembling, testing, and troubleshooting refrigeration systems and components. This role involves working from engineering drawings, verbal and written instructions to perform mechanical and electromechanical assemblies. The Technician will also conduct functional performance tests, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with engineering and senior technicians to improve processes and functionality. A working knowledge of refrigeration systems, including components, refrigerants, and brazing techniques, is essential.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assemble mechanical and electromechanical refrigeration systems based on engineering drawings, written procedures, and verbal instructions.
  • Conduct documented tests on subassemblies to assess performance and validate functionality against specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair subassemblies as directed.
  • Test the functional performance of systems, subassemblies, and parts under specified conditions (e.g., cold temperatures).
  • Work with senior technicians and engineering to propose and implement process and functional improvements.
  • Utilize and configure PCs in a Windows environment for system operation and documentation.
  • Handle refrigerants, including brazing, charging, and reclaiming, in accordance with industry standards.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and records of work performed.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of refrigeration systems, components, refrigerants, and brazing techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and refrigeration schematics.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills with a resourceful and self-motivated approach to problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in using PCs and familiarity with Microsoft Office is preferred.
  • Attention to detail with strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective time management and task prioritization to meet schedule commitments.
  • Willingness to learn and collaborate in a team environment.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a vocational school program or an approved technical training program in HVAC or refrigeration installation, repair, and maintenance (Journeyman certification is a plus).
